From Being Lost to Finding the Creative Spark

How did R.B. Fitzroy go from being utterly lost in his late twenties to finding his true purpose of inspiring others through his fantasy books and creativity research? A good question. The answer? Writing every day, and trusting the creative process.

R.B. Fitzroy (short for Rene Brauer Fitzroy) always had a creative impulse, an urge to create, and to inspire. If through immersing himself in fantasy and science fiction books, movies, and video games, or playing these imaginative worlds out with his friends in the forests around his home in Germany, where he grew up. But his road wasn’t straightforward.

Not knowing what do after high school, he studied economics, psychology, and organizational sciences, and took a winding road with many ‘wrong’ turns and dead ends. He would only later find out that all those seeming mistakes shaped who he was becoming. But also … the creative impulse never let him go.

It was ultimately R.B. Fitzroy’s brother who helped him tap into his potential, if only he would give himself a try. A real try that took hard work and commitment. And so R.B. Fitzroy went to work. He chased that creative impulse, he challenged himself to the deepest parts of himself to finally find his core, his identity, his true passion and purpose. And he found it.

It was January 1, 2019, that R.B. Fitzroy began to sit down and write, every day. That changed everything. It was pure wonder, there is no other word for it. It was from that moment on that he just knew—he would write for the rest of his life.

The feeling of utter inspiration and fulfillment that he described is hard to put into words. And yet, that’s exactly what he now tries to do. He now tries to give that feeling of immersing himself in the creative process to others through his creativity research; by uncovering the enemies of creativity that keep artists across continents and beautifully diverse cultures from finding the creative spark, and by studying constructive creative practices that enable us to overcome those enemies, and to create our dreams in real life.

R.B. Fitzroy has been writing ever since. Every day. And he will continue to do so for a long, long time. It was out of that impulse that Kingscliff and the Invisible Island was born, and the start of the epic adventure saga, a journey into a magical realm where magic is as real as our urge to create.

Through his fantasy books and creativity research, R.B. Fitzroy wishes nothing more than to illuminate the creative spark within you. It is the reason why his fiancée calls him Spark Illuminator. He likes it. But only … if it helps to inspire others. Because what he truly is, is a writer, a creator, and nothing more than a discoverer of the wondrous world of our imagination. The place … of possibility.

Today, R.B. Fitzroy lives with his family in the beautiful south of the Netherlands. At least part of the time. The rest of their time, they divide between magical Cape Town in South Africa, and Sydney in Australia, ocean countries of the highest inspiration.

Now it’s time for you to tap into your own imagination. Kingscliff and the Invisible Island is certainly a good place to start … to find the magic within.

Dream the dream. Find the magic. It is you. Always.
